Having lost her natural rhythm Mother Nature seems confused at times and we are no different. Like sunlight piercing through thick clouds, there is in our daily flow a brief pregnant moment filled with the potential to rethink (moon) and renew (sun). Maya
“In the heated hustle and bustle of our times we swing incessantly in our minds between the joys and pains of the past and the hopes and fears of an imagined future. The present moment, the only place in which life actually happens and inner peace can grow, is lost behind a smoke-screen of habitual patterns of thought. On the other hand, we ignore what has been valid and correct for thousand of years for the simplest reason imaginable: it is unknown to us. Perhaps you belong – whether as someone interested in your own well-being and in the health of your fellow-humans, or a professional healer – to those courageous pioneers who wish to reconquer this knowledge, slowly, unhurriedly, little by little. For it is by no means too late to revive these ancient arts.
Man discovered that a great number of natural occurrences – the ebb and flow of the tides, pregnancy, the weather, the behaviour of animals, and many other things – were closely related to the movement of the moon.
The cycle of the moon last exactly two to three days each month and the moon in this period always passes across the same stars. In addition to many other natural forces and law, our forefathers isolated twelve impulses, each with a different nature and colouring, which recur in the course of the solar and the lunar cycles. To the constellations with the sun passes through (in the course of a year) and the moon passes through (in the course of a month) they gave twelve names: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.
On the basis of his awareness of the present moment and his comparative observation of the rhythmic pulses of nature, Man had created a star-clock for himself, by means of which he could calculate what the future held in store in terms of favourable and restraining influences on his intentions. Many activities essential for survival could now be carried out more methodically and with greater prospect of success – sowing and planting, tending and fertilising, harvesting and storing – and, above all, many of the therapeutic measures taken by medical practitioners within a community.
“Nature in its kindness and generosity also gave us troughs in the waves, times to get our breath back, times for regeneration and learning. It takes courage nowadays to be able to face downward movements with a cool head and calm submission. All of us – human beings, animals, plants, stars, planets, sun and moon, you and us – we are all on the same boat. And the only purpose of our lives consists in waking each other up and being there for each other – no matter how long humanity still needs in order to realise this. The best medecine for Man is man”.
The science of astrology has always been at the heart of the Yogas and Ayurveda. Hatha Yoga, ha ‘sun’ and tha ‘moon’.. and then you have other stars, planets and asteroids who play a major role in our Shakespearean drama – that we are aware of it or not.
The traditional yoga practice will help you stay focused. I will explain briefly the cosmic weather and how to dress up mentally for the occasion. A ritual you can go back to for refuge when the world is spinning a little too fast or when your mind is nowhere to be found.
